This is a software application that can check connections to computers in a network.
This is a free ping monitor utility to track connections to remote hosts, located in LAN/WAN or Internet. The visual interface presents the status of connections that are easily comprehensible. The application sends pings on a regular basis. The responses are analyzed so that the status of all the connections can be established easily. When these pings are not returned for a specified number of times, the connection is reported lost. In case of connection outage Ping Monitor can immediately notify you about a problem by displaying System Tray messages. It can be configured to send an email too. These can be converted to SMS if the mobile operator supports email to SMS service. Such alerts can be sent out on connection establishment, loss and restoration.
The visual interface displays a current state of connections to monitored hosts. Other stats are reported too. These include average ping return time, outages and the deviation of the average ping time values. You are able to deduce the quality of the connections easily. Custom handlers can be set up if some actions are required when the state of a connection changes. These are executed when the state change happens. These handlers could be a command, an application or a set of scripts. The application can pass status information as part of the command, as a parameter. The interface is a little cluttered though, may be because it presents a lot of information. Thus, it may take a little getting used to. This is a very useful tool, otherwise.
